Position Overview

As Communications [Senior Lead], you will work closely with the Director of Communications and the broader Communications team, as well as cross-functionally with a variety of internal functions, to assist in developing and executing external communications strategies that raise awareness and build affinity for Magnetar. These include but are not limited to executive positioning, story-mining and proactive media relations initiatives for the firm, its businesses and senior executives.

The successful candidate will also play a key role in helping manage various internal communications strategies and firm-wide communications messaging. In addition, this person will support branding efforts to ensure consistency across various platforms, be involved with efforts pertaining to the Magnetar's philanthropic activities, and other ad-hoc communications efforts.

As Magnetar marks its 20-year anniversary in 2025, the Communications team is positioned as an integral part of an institutional-quality firm with an entrepreneurial mindset. We are looking for a self-starter and critical-thinker, hungry to delve into a role you can make your own. Responsibilities: Actively engage in Magnetar's day-to-day internal and external communication initiatives, working closely with key stakeholders across the firm to ensure clear communication messaging. Build deep subject matter expertise in Magnetar's key businesses, collaborating cross-functionally with teams to effectively articulate strategic priorities. Assist in crafting compelling narratives, enhancing executive profiles, and contributing to thought leadership efforts. Support proactive media outreach and help maintain relationships with financial media. Support the execution of the firm's robust internal communications strategy, including detailed content for the intranet, monthly newsletters, and communications for event and community programming. Support the content strategy for Magnetar's external platforms, ensuring high quality materials across the website and social media channels. Contribute to the development of sophisticated branding materials and engaging visual storytelling. Participate in the communication efforts surrounding the firm's philanthropic engagements, maintaining a high standard of written and visual communication. Qualifications: 5+ years of experience. Agency and/or financial sector experience required. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to quickly understand and simplify complexity. Experienced as a skilled writer, tailoring style and tone based on the message, medium and audience. Passionate about the financial services industry and committed to continued learning to drive the highest quality communications output. Resourceful, with robust problem-solving skills. Proven ability to multitask and manage an evolving/competing workload. Willingness to roll-up sleeves to tackle whatever is needed. Team player; excellent ability to manage relationships across all levels of an organization. Degree in communications, marketing, journalism or another related field required. Strong command of PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. Adobe InDesign and Illustrator experience preferred. Training to be provided if necessary.

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $130,000 USD. The actual base salary will depend upon the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, business needs and market. This role may be eligible for a discretionary bonus and if awarded is based on a variety of factors including firm and individual performance.
