About the Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement.

MoMA Summer 2025 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2025 in order to apply.

All summer intern applications are due by Friday, March 7th by 11:59 PM EST.

Department Projects & Tasks

Please note: this job posting has two (2) open positions for this department.

An intern will work with an Assistant Curator and a Curatorial Associate on research and preliminary planning for the next iteration of the “Architecture Now” triennial. Tasks will include assisting with identification of architectural firm participants, crafting the call for proposals, and providing administrative and logistical support for the nomination and selection process. The intern will contribute to assembling an extensive body of research that can act as the foundation for further exploration and/or the curatorial framework for the next iteration of the “Architecture Now” triennial.

Additionally, another intern will work with a Senior Curator and a Curatorial Assistant on preliminary research for an upcoming contemporary design exhibition. Tasks would include assisting with extensive research on works to include in the exhibition, development of the initial exhibition checklist, and providing administrative support for exhibition research, documentation, and internal/external correspondence with potential lenders. This intern will contribute to conducting research and systematically documenting findings.

Department Skillset Requirements

Candidates with an academic background in architectural history, art history, or design history and theory, as appropriate to the position(s). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Applicants should excel at creating organizational plans and be detail-oriented.
