Position Summary Job Summary

Under the direction of the Workday Change Management Lead, the Training Technical Writer develops, prepares and maintains documentation for systems, procedures, reporting, and other items for the District. Develops content and writes clear, step-by-step instructions to help PCC staff to successfully complete tasks and processes in Workday ERP. The Training Technical Writer consults with subject matter experts and transforms resulting information into written documentation. Prepares and edits narratives and statistical reports, schedules, and planning materials. Typical Duties and Responsibilities Writes online training modules, videos, tutorials, and other training content. Interviews and consults with project staff, subject matter experts, and external vendors; reads material, conducts research, and/or uses other methods to become familiar with subject matter to be documented; proactively seeks clarification as necessary. Gathers and analyzes technical information associated with the Employee Resource Planning system (Workday) to develop technical documentation, publications, user manuals and other training materials. Recommends and assists in the design and standardization of training materials, programming documentation, procedures, methods, manuals, reference, and other materials. Reviews documents authored by others for currency, technical accuracy, and grammar. Edits, standardizes, and/or makes changes to material prepared by others. Ensures documentation is written in a uniform voice and is of professional quality. Maintains and organizes documentation repository; maintains records and files of revisions as appropriate; manages updates and revisions. Develops and documents standards, templates, and style guides that are consistent with Portland Community College brand guidelines. Acts as a resource in common documentation approach. Authors, edits, and maintains a database of Quick Resource Guides, Administrative Process Guides and Help Articles.. Selects or develops photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and/or charts to illustrate material as needed. Provides research assistance as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Capabilities of information technology systems including but not limited to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc. Knowledge of Workday is a plus. Grammar and style standards such as AP-Style. Excellent spelling and punctuation. Business procedures and methods as well as process mapping and flow charting. Instructional Design Practice and Accessibility preferred Skills in: Expressing difficult and complex technical concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering, and documentation; Analyzing, interpreting, and simplifying technical information. Ability to: Create written materials that are free of grammar and spelling errors; Meet specified deadlines; Proofread own copy; Review the work of others; Learn and apply college and district policies and procedures; Work collaboratively with diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff; Work independently and as part of a team; Learn the characteristics of new systems and update skills to adapt to changing technology. Candidate Profile

Strong communication, collaboration, analytical and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to take complex written processes and technical language and translate into easy to understand, accessible written and visual content. Knowledge of principles and procedures of technical program documentation; Proven ability to create engaging content using a wide variety of desktop publishing and multimedia software and development tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, HTML, RwD Infopak, Visio, and core Google apps. Ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple priorities and deadlines while clearly managing expectations. Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

Associate's degree in computer information systems, management information systems, business administration, communication studies or related field. Three years of technical writing experience which includes document review, and creating document templates and style guides. Experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.

Position Grade 23

Starting Salary Expectations The first two steps of the range are: $68,271.00 and $70,320.00 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work environment is in an office or remote home office setting and includes typical computer-related noise levels and paper or equipment generated dust. Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding and use peripheral equipment.
