Summary: Alabama A&M University invites applications for a 9-month, faculty, Assistant Professor position with experience in Television and Film in the Communications Media program in the Department of Visual, Performing, and Communication Arts in the College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in television and film production, media studies, editing, screenwriting, lighting, and related areas. In addition, in this position the candidate will help find funding resources, maintain, update equipment and software, and find ways to incorporate new technologies into the program. We are looking for an innovative and dynamic educator with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The rank and tenure-status of position is negotiable based on qualifications. Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses in television and film production, media studies, in the instruction area of Communications, Media and Production and other related areas. Help find funding resources, maintain, and update equipment and software, and incorporate new technologies. Develop and maintain an active research agenda, including publications and presentations. Supervise student projects. Engage in service activities (recruitment, retention, and committees) within the department, university, and professional community. Mentor and advise students. Participate in curriculum development and assessment. Perform other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc):
Ph.D. or MFA in Communications, Media Studies, Film, or a related field by the time of appointment. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college/university level. A strong record of research and/or creative work in television and film. Proficiency in contemporary television and film production techniques and technologies. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Professional experience in television and/or film production. Knowledge of emerging media trends and digital storytelling. Experience with online and hybrid teaching methods.
