Reporting to the Vice President of Technology Operations, the Director of Network Engineering is responsible for managing a complex IT systems environment and processes including on-prem and AWS Cloud. This person will lead the design, implementation, and operation of enterprise-wide network infrastructure across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. Direct networking strategy and architecture to enable business scalability and operational excellence. This role will be crucial in evolving our network architecture to support cloud transformation while maintaining enterprise-grade reliability and security. The successful candidate will shape networking strategy and lead implementation of next-generation infrastructure. The person is expected to have strong experience and expertise in infrastructure management, virtualization, storage, and security operations.

Core Requirements and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the engineering and ongoing operations, security, and availability of IT infrastructure based on business requirements and adhering to tight operations, security, and procedural models.
  • Ability to operate in complex, high-demanding, highly-secure, and highly-available operations environments.
  • Interact with the technology domain experts and leaders as required to maintain and continuously enhance the infrastructure services of the department.
  • Strong proponent and practitioner of security best practices, experience managing and reducing vulnerabilities and security risks in the environment.
  • Design and support the production, DR, and backup environments; participate and conduct scheduled DR and data recoverability tests.
  • Influence across boundaries and at all levels of the organization.
  • Think strategically to help drive features and services for short- and long-term strategies and growth.
  • Think end-to-end by connecting all the pieces of the business (development, product management, QA, operations, etc.) to deliver technology and support while leveraging all available assets.
  • Provide strong people management: attracting, retaining, inspiring, and growing individuals; demonstrate a passion for people development and mobility.
  • Actively aware of changing technology standards, software, and platforms.

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Architect and oversee hybrid network solutions integrating AWS and traditional datacenter infrastructure.
  • Lead network security initiatives including Zero Trust architecture implementation, segmentation, and access controls.
  • Develop network architecture standards and govern their implementation.
  • Manage a team of senior network engineers and architects.
  • Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives for network management.
  • Oversee global telecommunications infrastructure and carrier relationships.
  • Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning for network services.
  • Optimize network costs while maintaining performance and reliability.
  • Experience in deploying, upgrading, and optimizing large enterprise network, storage, compute, and virtualization environments.
  • Highly technical and proficient in troubleshooting infrastructure and application incidents and performance issues.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred) and service migrations to cloud.
  • Well versed with ITIL practices of incident, change, release, and capacity management. Drive these functions for the department and work towards continuous improvement.
  • Must have worked and managed a complex and hybrid environment with a mix of Windows, Linux, AWS, SQL, Oracle, Java, .Net, load balancers, firewalls, and related technologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills with a logical thinking approach & problem-solving attitude.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to navigate through the organization to deliver services and meet business demands.
  • Ability to set goals and objectives, prioritize, and manage situations to satisfactory completion.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for SaaS Operations spending and initiatives.
  • Keep current with trends and issues in the industry, including current technologies and prices.
  • Effectively lead and manage change within their area of responsibility as well as across the business.
  • Operate best in a fast-paced, flexible work environment.
  • Have a cooperative, collaborative, open, and flexible mindset.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of enterprise network engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of architecture and team leadership experience.
  • Deep expertise in AWS networking services (VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect).
  • Strong background in datacenter networking technologies and protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, and other core protocols.
  • Proven experience implementing Zero Trust network architectures.
  • Experience managing telecommunications and WAN infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Professional certifications.
  • CCIE or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with network automation and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Background in financial services or similarly regulated industries.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Additional Requirements and Details:

  • Travel required up to 10% of the time.
  • Located and working from an office location.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.).
