Audio/Video Alarm Systems Technician

Techlife Media Systems is seeking qualified individuals for a self-motivated installer and technician to join our Security Alarm team in the Long Island area. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with installing and servicing security alarm systems. Strong opportunities are available to get involved with our audio/video and home automation divisions. The applicant will possess a desire to grow with the company, excel when presented with a challenge, and be motivated to further expand upon his/her skill sets.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the installation and troubleshooting of the following systems:

  1. Residential and commercial audio/video/alarm systems including wiring, speakers, amplifiers, televisions, projectors, various audio/video sources and related components.
  2. Wired and wireless network systems including modems, routers, managed and unmanaged network switches, wireless controllers and wireless access points.
  3. Home control and automation systems including control processors, remote controls, touchscreens, thermostats, and tablets.
  4. Lighting control systems including dimmers, switches, control processors, and repeaters.
  5. Motorized window treatment systems, including shades, drapery track, control processors, keypads, and keypad wiring.
  6. Camera surveillance systems including network and digital video recorders, cameras, wiring, and router port forwarding configurations.
  7. Equipment racks utilizing proper techniques for equipment placement, wire management, ventilation, and power distribution.
  8. Providing and completing daily documentation and job status reports.

Technical Qualifications

  1. Practical hands-on knowledge of audio/video equipment and low voltage electronics.
  2. Practical hands-on knowledge of alarm (burglar, smoke, CO, panels, and related wiring) systems.
  3. Knowledge or understanding of residential network technologies.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of construction documents and plans as well as of construction methods and materials.
  5. The ability to efficiently work with hand tools, cordless drills, etc.
  6. Knowledge of working with Windows PC and Mac/Apple products including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Google Calendar.
  7. Willingness to train in disciplines where experience may be lacking.

Non-Technical Qualifications

  1. Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and professional at all times.
  2. Ability to communicate with clients professionally, respectfully, confidently, clearly, and in a non-technical fashion.
  3. Ability to work independently and in team environments with other installers and technicians.
  4. Interact with architects, builders, interior designers, general contractors, electricians, and other trades on a job site.
  5. Troubleshoot system issues, relying on team knowledge and effective communication with various manufacturer’s technical support services.
  6. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment and job site.
  7. Natural leadership qualities with a professional presentation and demeanor.
  8. Fluency in English; ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
  9. Clean driver’s license.
  10. Some heavy lifting may be required.

Job Benefits

Paid time off including paid holidays, sick days, personal days, and vacation days after a period of constant employment.

Salary

  1. Paid on an hourly basis with a bonus for working in excess of 40 hours per week.
  2. Hourly rate will be commensurate with the experience and skills brought to our team.
