GENERAL FUNCTION:
Responsible for producing daily event coverage as well as creating program schedules for C-SPAN networks. Ensures all program elements are prepared for air and provides editorial and logistical support for live and recorded content.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements daily program schedules for C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, or C-SPAN3, ensuring alignment with editorial and presentation guidelines.
  • Researches and produces daily event coverage, identifying and communicating the most relevant and newsworthy aspects of assigned events.
  • Prepares accurate program rundowns for technical teams and ensures program elements are properly executed.
  • Writes and prepares on-air copy, graphics and schedule information while ensuring accuracy in scripts and visual elements.
  • Edits event coverage and other video content as needed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates all elements of studio and field productions for special events and issue-oriented programming.
  • Schedules and manages event promotions in program transitions.
  • Acts as Field Producer as needed, providing editorial and logistical support for live and recorded content.
  • Provides clear guidance to editorial and technical staff on all matters of presentation and production during live event coverage.
  • Maintains accurate records and upholds C-SPAN's corporate values, policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BACKGROUND/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science, Journalism, Radio-TV-Film or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience, preferably in electronic media or on Capitol Hill.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in politics, government, public affairs and current events.
  • Excellent organizational, writing, grammatical and spelling skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in newsroom systems, including Dalet, and non-linear editing (preferred).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under strict time constraints.
  • Creative and innovative mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings and weekends, as required by event coverage.
  • Ability to travel and operate vehicles in accordance with C-SPAN guidelines.
