WarnerMedia seeks an Executive Director, Music for the WarnerMedia Kids, Young Adults, and Classics group. Music is a key extension of the brands and IP across WarnerMedia, and especially true for the Kids and Young Adults division. The role serves two key purposes: the business of music and the creative excellence in our IP. The related goals are to (1) drive incremental revenue across the portfolio, (2) leverage music to drive affinity and engagement with our fans, and (3) bring creative excellence to our musical properties.

The Daily

  1. Business / Product Management
    • Partner with multiple production units across WM kids, young adults, and classic group to create music products and roadmaps.
    • Partner with WaterTower Records/3rd Party Labels, Publishing Partners, Marketing, Franchise, and Current Series to create launch plans for KYAC music.
    • POC and partner to internal KYAC & WM divisions to help support music releases and initiatives.
    • Develop strategy and execution for live music opportunities, including partnering with key stakeholders on the adult swim festival.
    • Manage KYAC music P&L with finance to track multiple revenue streams across recorded music, publishing, licensing, and new forms of music monetization.
    • POC for legal and production legal teams to clear music for releases.
    • Provide support to music legal for music publishing information needs.
    • Partner with international regions to ensure global launches are supported and revenue is maximized within their territories.
  2. Creative
    • Representative to music industry; songwriters, labels, management companies, agents, publishers, performance, internal music groups.
    • Resource for kids, young adults, and classics productions including composers, songwriters, performers. Additional support for marketing uses and needs.
    • Partner with music legal music on talent agreements across KYAC.
    • Drive vision for growing and retaining musical talent within KYAC group while leveraging broader WarnerMedia ecosystem; including developing performers, and supporting songwriters and composers.
    • Partner to casting for identifying and or clearing musical acts with acting requirements.
    • Partner and/or negotiate 3rd party music licensing requests.
    • Work with internal groups on music requests such as remixes/covers/etc.
    • Partner with international regions to support regional creative needs.
  3. Operations
    • Leverage support terms for collecting music files, metadata from productions.
    • Ensure information and dates are communicated across WM.
    • Project manage deliveries, invoices, etc.
    • Ensure clearances and agreements are completed.
    • Provide music research and reporting support.
    • Manage department expenses.

The Essentials

  • 8 years in media preferably with experience in finance, management consulting, or corporate development.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strategic insight.
  • Experience preparing and presenting business plans.
  • Background in business development or project management.
  • Superior quantitative modeling skills and a sound understanding of finance.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with several deliverables under tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Resourceful self-starter with a strong desire to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to persuade others, build consensus and work within a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent research skills and ability to organize, synthesize and present information.
  • Strong project management and proven leadership skills.
  • Experience in/or desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Prior experience with new business development and launches.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
