The Medical Necessity Writer plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our patients receive the appropriate level of care and support. This position is responsible for researching and analyzing clinical data within the patient's medical records to support patient's initial level of home health care services, as well as writing for continuation of the same level of care or increased level of care, if medically necessary or appropriate, during the renewal cycle. This is a crucial role in obtaining approval without lapse of services for the prescribed level of care for our patients.
Responsibilities
- Analyze the patient’s medical records, associated treatment plans for their covered conditions, and assessments
- Research outside journal articles relating to the patient’s known covered diagnoses and exposures
- Write clear, concise, and persuasive letters of medical necessity for all assigned patients’ home health care services
- Ensure to capture all relevant covered conditions
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and other team members to gather relevant information/coordinate necessary testing and ensure accuracy in your communications
- Monitor patients’ progress and treatment plans to assess the need for renewals and/or increases in home health care services
- Think outside the box to connect why the continuation or increase in care is medically necessary
- Prepare and submit timely requests for renewals or increases, supported by updated letters of medical necessity and relevant documentation
- Maintain meticulous records of your research findings, correspondence, and documentation related to patients’ home health care services
Qualifications
- Healthcare experience preferred
- Experience with MS Office products required
- Key competencies include communication both written and verbal, analytical thinking, detail oriented, teamwork and organization
