Community Manager
Reports to: Managing Director, Community Care & Programs FLSA Status: Non-exempt Supervisor: No Start Date: April 2025
Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000
Organizational Description: This mission of Women Building Up (WBU) is to advance gender, racial, and social justice by supporting women, girls, and gender expansive people who have been directly impacted by carceral systems to claim their power and become agents of transformative change in their communities and the world. WBU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by a committee of 50 women (cis, trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive), many of whom experienced incarceration, and all of whom are courageous leaders, activists, and passionate visionaries contributing to the growth of larger grassroots movements that advance justice for women. Position Summary:
Working with the Community Care & Programs team, the Community Manager advances the mission of Women Building Up (WBU) by managing the development, implementation, and community-centered evaluation of mission-driven activities at WBU. This work includes event management, community engagement, and relationship building, working closely with partners and the local community. This role requires a dynamic individual with experience in events and program management, graphic design, and communications to ensure impactful and sustainable programming. This position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work some evenings and Saturdays to support programming. The Community Manager is a full-time (35 hours), overtime-eligible position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the planning, coordination, and implementation of events hosted at WBU, together with partners when they are involved Oversee and carry out programmatic logistics and administrative tasks, including managing agreements, payments, and reports Process documentation of space use, vendor agreements, receipts, and related program information Assist with A/V set-up, organization and maintenance of the program supply room and coworking operations Support building and maintaining relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and participants through WBU-hosted community events, workshops, and networking opportunities Orient visitors, collaborators, and core partners to WBU’s community agreements and norms Collaborate with core partners and practitioners to facilitate development of mental and physical well-being health activities at WBU Create visually engaging program materials and collaborate with Communications vendors to ensure consistent branding and messaging Develop presentations, infographics, and promotional materials to support outreach efforts Recognizing that this is a small team in a new organization, actively seek out opportunities to assist and engage in shared learning with team members when carrying out programmatic activities Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of program goals with organizational priorities Participate in regular staff meetings and shared learning opportunities, and contribute to organizational planning and development Assumes other related responsibilities and special projects as required Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Women Building Up’s mission and values Physical Demands:

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring the candidate to be in our Brooklyn office 3 days per week, as the community programming calendar permits. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
5+ years of experience in events planning, management, project management, community outreach, or a similar role Experience working on justice-impacted and carceral systems issues Experience in areas including social justice, program management, event planning, art/design, communications, healing arts, or social work Proficiency in Google Suite, especially spreadsheets (or Excel), Eventbrite, and other outreach platforms Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), technology management, software organization, and content management platforms Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse individuals Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong administrative, organizational, and project management abilities Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and seek solutions to challenges in a fast-paced environment Key Competencies:
Creativity and attention to detail in content and program design Orientation toward facilitation and mentorship Analytical mindset for gathering feedback toward learning and evaluation Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits: Vacation: 20 days of vacation annually. Five days are available on the start date, and five new days are issued every quarter, with renewal on the employee’s anniversary. Sick time: 12 days/year (available upon hire) Personal days: 3 personal/mental health days (available upon hire) Holidays: 10 floating holidays of employee's choice Summer Fridays: 5 days/year Office Closure: Women Building Up intends to be closed between December 25 through January 1 unless there is a specific need to be open during such time.
