What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)Reporting & Story DevelopmentPitch, research, write, and edit accurate and compelling news stories, features, and enterprise pieces.Maintain an active presence in the community by attending local events, meetings, and press conferences.Content Production & OversightCollaborate with editors, designers, and other journalists to produce print and digital content.Manage editorial calendars, assignments, and deadlines for multiple publications and platforms.Community EngagementAct as a point of contact for local citizens, businesses, and community groups.Foster positive relationships and represent Iowa Information Media Group at community gatherings.Digital & Social Media IntegrationUtilize social media channels and digital platforms to share stories and interact with audiences.Explore emerging multimedia formats such as podcasts, videos, or live-streamed events.Ethical Standards & Continuous ImprovementUphold journalistic integrity through rigorous fact-checking and responsible reporting.Participate in professional development to stay current with evolving industry trends and tools. Who You Are (Requirements)EducationBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.ExperienceSome reporting or writing background—whether through internships, college media, or previous professional roles.Familiarity with AP style and journalistic best practices is strongly preferred.Multimedia storytelling experience or proficiency with digital platforms is a plus.Skills & AttributesExcellent written and oral communication, with an eye for detail and accuracy.Self-driven and comfortable working both independently and within a collaborative team setting.A desire to invest in others through mentorship, idea-sharing, and teamwork.Adaptable in a fast-paced environment, embracing new technologies and approaches to journalism.
