INTRODUCTION:
The University Library at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rock County Campus seeks a Rock Campus Library and Electronic Resources Assistant (Library Assistant II, LM009). This position is part-time at .6 FTE.
JOB DUTIES:
This position has responsibility for assisting with library circulation, interlibrary loan, materials processing, assistance to patrons and supervising student staff at the UW-Whitewater Rock Campus Library. Other duties include assisting the E-Resources Librarian in providing electronic resources support for the University Libraries. The work performed requires knowledge of and experience with library practices and procedures, customer service, and flexibility. Rock Campus Lenox Library services are supervised by the Rock Campus Librarian. Electronic Resources services are overseen by the Electronic Resource and Acquisitions Librarian. The position works on site in the Lenox Library at the Rock Campus and the Andersen Library at the Whitewater campus. The position may be a 12 month or 10 month, August to May, appointment depending on the successful applicant.
Patron Services and Library Operations:
- Assist library users in resource discovery and retrieval; provide basic research assistance in the absence of an academic librarian, referring patrons to curated library electronic resources.
- Provide routine public service duties including the full range of circulation services; charging, discharging, renewals, generating community borrowing cards and maintaining patron records.
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating library student workers.
- Supervise activity in the library and field complaints or suggestions from library users.
- Maintain pleasant and user-friendly library physical space.
- Assist students and staff with library technology as needed.
- Understand campus emergency procedures and assist with library evacuation, shelter, or other protocol as needed.
Materials and Collections:
- Assist interlibrary loan and resource sharing processing, material routing/shipping, troubleshooting and library delivery systems.
- Promote library services to students, faculty and campus staff.
- Participate in weeding of physical materials including scanning, list preparation, distribution, and disposal of discarded items via approved methods.
- Participate in shelving, shelf reading and inventory processes.
- Assist in managing the course reserves.
University Library Electronic Resources Support:
- Assist in the monitoring and troubleshooting of access issues for electronic resources and communicating with other library staff regarding issues as necessary.
- Participate in on-going weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance, such as documenting usage statistics, updating database platforms and other electronic resource tasks.
- Assist Electronic Resource and Acquisitions Librarian with on-going services, projects, and workflows.
Professional Development and Institutional Service:
- Participate in community, campus, and/or institutional service including committee participation.
- Assist with institutional library projects or initiatives as needed.
- Engage actively in professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and/or coursework.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience teaching, training, or coordinating others
- Computer troubleshooting experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in a library setting
- Experience with integrated library systems platforms
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness and Ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training drills
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect an hourly wage of $19.00 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications. UW System employees receive an excellent benefit package.
CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT:
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
