ROTHE is seeking a Photographer III to work for NASA’s Imagery Acquisition Group at Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. The successful candidate will be tasked with capturing still photography, high-speed and time lapse video of a variety of flight hardware, engineering tests, personnel, and other subjects and events of importance to NASA’s human space flight effort. This position is in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract.
This position is located in Hampton, VA (On-site role) at NASA Langley Research Center.
Salary: $62,000 - $69,800
Job Description
- Award ceremonies, visiting dignitaries, educational events, and NASA special events photo documentation.
- Engineering & hardware photo documentation.
- Official portraits in controlled lighting/studio environment.
- Professional photography and lighting for production shoots.
- Time-lapse photography & video.
- Consultation and art direction to customers.
- Develop procedures and methods for image capture.
- Work with imaging workstation computers, laptops, Windows Enterprise, Apple Mac OS, Adobe Suite, and other image related software.
The position requires work under various conditions, including in the studio, in engineering labs, outdoors, in confined spaces, high platform locations, on remote field locations, aboard various NASA vehicles and locations. This position also requires the ability to work in a team environment with engineers, researchers, astronauts, video & photo lab personnel and fellow staff photographers. Team responsibilities include assisting other photographers, contributing to team projects, assisting with office duties including project planning, scheduling, equipment maintenance and inventory.
EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS WORK REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in photography or related imaging field from an accredited University or Technical Institute, with 10 years experience.
- Education should include use of computers for photographic applications, portraiture, creative photography, scientific photography, time lapse, high-speed. Knowledge and experience with DSLR cameras, accurate exposure/color reproduction, remote control systems, flash lighting systems and LED lights is required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum Requirements
- Must provide a high degree of technical & creative capability, artistic vision, independent judgment, and ability to cooperate with company and non-company personnel in the selection and use of camera systems, digital formats, lights, and associated computers systems.
- Must be detail oriented, keep accurate scientific data, and perform basic mathematical calculations for problem solving.
- Must communicate in a friendly and professional manner with NASA personnel, follow government protocol standards, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with customers, management, and fellow employees at all levels in a team environment.
- Familiarization with working in a scientific and engineering environment desired.
- Must be able to pass a medical examination and medical criteria for flight operations.
- Must be able to physically lift and/or carry 50lbs. of equipment on a regular basis and work in extreme environments.
- Adherence to quality control, safety, operations, administrative and security procedures including reporting will be required.
- Experienced in organizing collections of information.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarization with working in a scientific and engineering environment desired.
