The Researcher Engagement and General Collections (REGC) Division is offering an opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-4 level to serve on a full-time, 120-day temporary promotion to the GS-5 level OR a qualified individual at the GS-5 level (no promotion) to serve on a full-time 120-day detail as Reader Registration Assistant, Access Services, Researcher Engagement and General Collections (REGC) Division, General and International Collections Directorate (GICD), Researcher Collection and Services (RCS) within the Library Collections and Service Group (LCSG) at the Library of Congress (LOC).

Reporting to the Reader Registration Supervisor, this position is responsible for the full range of duties necessary to operate the Reader Registration Station and to assist researchers in obtaining a Library-Issued Reader Identification Card.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting readers entering the station, disseminating information and necessary forms, and ensuring that the applicant is in possession of the necessary forms of identification.
  • Assisting applicants in using the online registration system to input critical data.
  • Operating and maintaining the badging equipment which captures photo and other information and issues the identification card.

  • Submit a one-page Statement of Interest describing qualifications that include work experience, education and training related to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service. Orients and provides information to patrons about specialized programs, reader registration procedures, physical layout of the Library and directions to other library locations.
  • Ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing. Interacts and communicates effectively with a diverse group of constituents: patrons, researchers, and visitors.
  • Ability to provide clerical and administrative support in various office activities. Reviews documents and reports for completeness and enters relevant information into an automated system.
  • Ability to interpret and apply a variety of guidelines and/or regulations. Collects relevant information and data both through manual forms and through the online database. Interviews customers to ascertain contact information and other specific data affecting the accuracy of further processes.
  • The applicant should also provide the name and email address of their immediate supervisor.

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to LC permanent and indefinite staff who have permission from their supervisor.

Work Schedule: The work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 11:45 am-8:15 pm, and Saturday 8:15 am-4:45 pm. There is no telework option for this position.
