BETTER YOUTH
Position Title: FILM & TV FACILITATOR

ABOUT US
The mission of Better Youth, Inc is to build creative confidence, close resource gaps and prepare foster and system-impacted youth for sustained success. Our flagship pre-apprenticeship program, AIM-N-INSPIRE, is a high-powered media arts training experience for opportunity youth ages 17-24 that provides professional development, intensive training, and the opportunity to showcase created content to industry professionals. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Film & TV Facilitator will make an impact in the community working alongside industry mentors guiding young creatives through a series of crafted sessions designed to unleash their potential in the world of narrative storytelling and filmmaking. Additionally, this person will lead a cohort of 15-20 pre-apprentice youth, and facilitate sessions online via Zoom and in-person. This role is part-time reporting to the Sr. Program Manager and will receive guidance from the Chief Innovation Officer.

The AIM-N-INSPIRE program is in collaboration with Skydance Media. The curriculum session guides are provided by Better Youth but there is room for input and creativity. Trauma informed training will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver engaging and educational film and TV (media) program curriculum across three sessions and intermittent media assets including final capstone projects.
  • Conduct one weekly in-person lab and facilitate additional sessions online via ZOOM.
  • Foster an environment that encourages creativity, while also adhering to the structured curriculum provided by Better Youth.
  • Engage with participants to foster positive group dynamics, personal development, and encourage confident and consistent participation.
  • Collaborate with industry mentors to provide a comprehensive learning experience.
  • Incorporate trauma-informed practices into all interactions and training sessions.
  • Prepare weekly lessons and achieve weekly curriculum-based objectives leveraging your unique insights and creative approaches.
  • Get to know your youth, their goals, aspirations, strengths, and areas for development while modeling a strong, healthy, and equitable relationship with each participant.

PROGRAM SESSIONS 
  • Session One | Prof. Development Workshops | Late April - June
  • Session Two | Summer Training Intensives | June – September
  • Session Three | Exhibition & Distribution | September – December


SALARY
$35-$45/hr @ 10 hours per week plus prep time
Includes off session Professional Development and Training 
This is a year-round opportunity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient in creating and managing content for diverse and underserved youth communities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire
  • 2+ years of experience working with foster, system impacted or opportunity youth 
  • 2+ years of experience facilitating workshops and/or trainings to communities of color
  • Knowledge of relevant software/platforms (Adobe Creative Cloud, Studio Binder, etc)
  • Must pass LiveScan criminal background check facilitated by the Department of Justice
