Position Summary
Hosts National Public Radio (NPR) news shows and local broadcasts. Provides continuity, promos and underwriting, weather reports, and newscasts for broadcast and online publication. Also responsible for writing, voicing, and editing stories about newsworthy topics for broadcast and online publication. This position is equally split between hosting and reporting duties.
KUNM-FM is looking for an On-Call Host to join our team. This position provides fill-in coverage for Morning Edition or All Things Considered, delivering essential news and information to our listeners with professionalism, clarity, and depth. The successful candidate may also occasionally host our weekly live call-in show, Let's Talk New Mexico.
About the PositionThe On-Call Host will serve as a substitute for our regular hosts, stepping in as needed to anchor live or pre-recorded broadcasts. Responsibilities include:
* Delivering newscasts, weather, and station announcements
* Writing up news content from a variety of sources in addition to airing KUNM stories
* Conducting live and pre-recorded two-way interviews
* Smoothly navigating breaking news and urgent updates
* Operating studio equipment and following NPR-style broadcast protocols
The ideal candidate will have strong on-air presence, excellent news judgment, and the ability to think quickly in a live broadcast environment. Prior experience in radio news hosting, anchoring, or public broadcasting is preferred.

Conditions of Employment- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications* experience hosting NPR news magazine programs and other news oriented shows
* familiarity with public radio journalism style
* familiarity with online CMS
* history of using social media in a professional setting
* proficient in conversational Spanish and pronunciation on New Mexico's place names and people's names
Fill-in as host for news programs, including KUNM's broadcast of NPR news magazine shows (Morning Edition, 5a - 8a, 8:30 on Tuesdays, and/or All Things Considered, 5p - 7p).
- Produce local newscast segments using KUNM original content, Associated
Press wire content, and content from other news outlets - Produce program breaks, engineer live broadcast of satellite feeds, queue
up public affairs programming as scheduled - Update KUNM website with online versions of newscast content
