Lower School General Music Teacher (Grades 3-5)

Reports to: Director of Fine Arts

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Carries out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned class(es), in order to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett's mission and Vision for Learning.
  • Purposefully designs curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.).
  • Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called,
  • Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom.
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including additional responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g., Admission Open House, observations, and interviews).
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.
  • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate broad choral and General Music literature.
  • Strong collaborative spirit.
  • Availability after-school hours for an extracurricular 4th & 5th Grade Chorus class, as well as for production rehearsals.
  • Ability to coach and stage the details of choral music.
  • Experience coordinating and directing Lower School musical productions.
  • Understanding of healthy age-appropriate vocal production.
  • Employment of a variety of teaching and assessment techniques.
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
  • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals.
  • Commitment to developing one's own cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance.

The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk up and down stairs, and conduct large groups. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
