Position Title: Communications Aide

Salary Schedule: PARA plus supplement

Reports To: Principal, SLP Lead, SLP Coordinator

Work Schedule: 190 Days / 8 hours per day

Grade/Level: N/A

FLSA: Exempt: No

Primary Function: Facilitates development of communication skills under the supervision of a certified SLP.

Working Conditions:

Classroom environment. Physical demands include:

  1. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
  2. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  3. Seeing to read a variety of materials.
  4. Sitting for extended periods of time.
  5. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materials.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech Pathology required. Paraprofessional certification will be required.

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Conducts speech/language therapy sessions according to schedule.
  3. Notifies staff in a timely manner of any changes to schedule.
  4. Reports and maintains student attendance and data to assess progress.
  5. Complies with Federal, State, and System regulations regarding due process.
  6. Refers to other agencies and/or personnel when appropriate.
  7. Investigates and uses new strategies for delivering student services.
  8. Participates in professional learning opportunities provided.
  9. Attends scheduled departmental meetings.
  10. Participates with school administrators/coordinators for effective planning, coordination, and implementation of speech-language program into total educational system.
  11. Participates in RTI process at local school level.
  12. Reports information required for local, state, and federal programs.
  13. Maintains confidentiality of student and student records.
  14. Adheres to legal statutes, organizational rules, and community standards.
  15. Maintains successful working relationships with co-workers.
  16. Functions as a team worker.
  17. Manifests emotional stability and maturity in all phases of job performance.
  18. Gets along positively with staff, supervisors, and visitors.
  19. Treats confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion and avoids gossip.
  20. Meets obligations with punctuality and maintains regular attendance.
  21. Works without constant direction.
  22. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

  26. Presents a professional image when representing Paulding County Schools through word, action, and dress.
  27. Proven ability to utilize appropriate procedures for student's safety and welfare.
  28. Provides therapy per IEPs under the direction of the SLP.
  29. Reviews plans and schedules with the SLP on a regular basis.
  30. Manages the learning environment.
  31. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
