What You Will Be Doing

As the face of Northern Region DOT&PF, you’ll be at the heart of our public outreach, media relations, and digital storytelling. Your mission? To create engaging content that connects Alaskans with the transportation projects shaping their communities. From crafting compelling social media posts to producing high-impact publications and coordinating with the press, you’ll do it all. In this fast-paced role, you’ll be the go-to expert for media requests, ensuring clear, timely, and accurate communication—especially during critical events. You’ll collaborate with local governments, tribal entities, and interagency partners to keep the public informed and engaged.

Working closely with the Communications Team and the Northern Region Director, you’ll develop visuals, written content, and digital materials for social media, websites, and public outreach events. You’ll also play a key role in shaping DOT&PF’s voice, ensuring messaging is consistent across all channels. Minimum Qualifications

  • Communications and Media: Knowledge of the production, communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written, oral, visual media and social media.
  • External Awareness: Understands and keeps up-to-date on local, national, and international policies and trends that affect the organization and shape stakeholders' views; is aware of the organization's impact on the external environment.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
  • Multimedia Technologies: Knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, and techniques to develop or apply technology using text, audio, graphics, or other media.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organization's mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them.
