Job Description:
Yahoo Sports is looking for a detail-oriented editor to join its breaking news team and help shape daily coverage of the major sports landscape. This candidate should have strong news judgment, communication and leadership skills.
We reach millions of app, desktop and social media users every day, and our breaking news team plays an essential role in crafting the content that our audience consumes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing a team of writers to identify breaking and trending sports stories that resonate with the Yahoo Sports audience
- Edit stories and write engaging, SEO-friendly headlines
- Manage content budget
- Contribute quick, accurate blog posts when news dictates
- Attend daily planning meetings to identify and highlight the top stories of the day
- Proactively monitor games, transactions and social media to flag newsworthy stories and topics
- Coordinate with other editors, social leads and audience engagement
- Utilize SEO best practices for headline and story crafting
- Create and contribute to live blogs for notable events
- Help manage a writer schedule to align with daily needs
- Conform to Yahoo Sports' voice, format and style guide
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least three years of experience in editing and/or writing and reporting
- Ability to write clean, straightforward copy in a timely manner
- Willingness to work nights/weekends around major sporting events
- Experience working within content management systems
- Strong knowledge and passion for all major sports
- Adherence to AP Style and SEO best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Track record of identifying stories and subjects that draw interest from a wide audience
- Experience managing and/or coaching writers
- Familiarity with Google Trends

The compensation for this position ranges from $72,750.00 - $151,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
