About the Department
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors is a unit of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. The department has 17 faculty members, 350 undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Furnishings and Interiors, and 30+ graduate students. The department is a member of the National Retail Federation. The Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation (GSGEF), a board of industry professionals, provides guidance to the curriculum and scholarships for students.

Position Summary
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors (TMI) in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) at the University of Georgia seeks to hire a 9-month Lecturer of Product Design and Development in Fashion Merchandising. The position begins in August 2025.
The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate classes (8 classes per year) in product design and development, and related areas of fashion merchandising. Additional responsibilities include service to the program, department, college, and the university.
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in apparel design, technical apparel design, pattern making, draping, garment construction, apparel/technical design technologies
- Demonstrated proficiency in apparel/technical design software programs, including but not limited to Adobe Suite (such as Photoshop and Illustrator), and 2D/3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Evidence of professional work in the fashion/textile industry
- Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) software
- Evidence of undergraduate teaching
- Familiarity with new directions in the fashion industry
- Leadership and mentoring, specifically of students in design scholarship
