Position Overview:
As the Readers’ Advisory and Collection Development Librarian, you will play a key role in shaping and curating our library’s collection to meet the evolving needs and interests of our diverse community. You will be responsible for the selection, maintenance, and evaluation of materials for both adult and young adult audiences, with a strong focus on eMaterials. Your expertise will guide library users in their reading choices, ensuring that they have access to high-quality, relevant resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the collection development process, ensuring that library collections reflect the community’s needs and interests across various formats, including print, digital, and multimedia.
  • Collaborate with library staff to create and implement strategies for collection assessment, growth, and weeding.
  • Stay current with trends in both print and digital library resources, particularly for adult and young adult patrons.
  • Utilize vendor purchasing platforms (e.g., OverDrive, Hoopla, etc.) to manage and enhance eMaterials collections.
  • Provide expert readers' advisory services to patrons of all ages, offering personalized recommendations based on user preferences and reading history.
  • Develop and lead library programs that engage the community in exploring new books, authors, and genres.
  • Evaluate and recommend new acquisition strategies and assess collection performance regularly to ensure a diverse and representative collection.
  • Assist in staff training on collection development and the use of digital resources.

Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited library school.
  • Strong knowledge of collection development principles and practices, particularly for adult and young adult materials.
  • Expertise in the selection, acquisition, and maintenance of eMaterials, including eBooks, audiobooks, and digital content.
  • Proficiency in using vendor purchasing platforms (e.g., OverDrive, Hoopla, etc.) and knowledge of library management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patrons and colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze and assess community needs and translate them into meaningful collection strategies.
  • A passion for reading and helping others discover new books, genres, and formats
