Under direct supervision of the Access Services Librarian in collaboration with the Inter Library Loan and Access Services Departments, the incumbent is responsible for providing library circulation support to the Access Services team to include cross functional support to other areas of the unit as needed. The Library Student Assistant will have a strong interest in library services and other cross functional areas and drive to become a valued team member. Our ambition is to attract and retain the best talent in the market to continue our journey building a world class in-house Library Access Services team while carrying out the Universities mission and vision statement.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Service Desk:
- Check out and check in books, reserve items, equipment, and other library materials
- Assist library patrons with locating materials in the online library catalog and on reserve
- Answer basic informational, directional, and library policy questions
- Assist library patrons in using library equipment (printers, scanners)
- Perform opening and closing procedures when scheduled for those shifts
- Record and tally usage statistics
- Retrieve, sort, and process library materials
- Shelve and shelf-read library materials from all collections
- Straighten the shelves and shift tight areas
- Perform searches for missing materials
- Help to maintain the cleanliness of the library
- Attend mandatory meetings and group training sessions
- Assist with preparation for special outreach events and initiatives
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
