The Air Operations Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. Only applications from current OCFA Firefighter/Paramedics will be accepted.
The Air Operations Section is recruiting for the position of Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer to create a candidate pool list to fill future vacancies. Air Operation personnel work on a 48/96 schedule.
To obtain Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer Qualifications, Candidates will be required to successfully complete the following training:
- Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer Basic Academy
- Day and Night check rides for all skills
In addition to the required training listed above, candidates must receive a Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer Operations Spotter Qualification within one year. To obtain the Paramedic Helicopter Rescuer Operations Spotter qualification, incumbents must complete the following:
- Possess a minimum of six (6) months of experience as Helicopter Paramedic Rescuer
- NVG Computer and Instructor-led training
- OCFA Operations Spotter Position Task Book
- Day and Night check rides for all skills
Minimum requirements to be considered are:
- Rank of Firefighter
- Qualified and accredited in Orange County as a paramedic
- Minimum of (one) 1 year experience as an OCFA paramedic
- Overall rating of “Standard” or above on most recent annual review of performance
Highly desirable qualifications include:
- Basic Air Operations (S-270)
- Helicopter Crew Member (S-271)
- Intermediate Wildland (S-290)
- Rescue Systems 1 or Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations
- Swift Water Rescue certificate
- Aviation Training at www.iat.gov: A-100, A-103, A-109, A-110, A-112, A-115, and A-204
- NCWG Standards for Helicopter Operations (Chapters 2, 3 and 4)
