The Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC is a business advocacy and economic development organization that supports over 1,200 businesses in Bismarck and Mandan/Burleigh and Morton County. The Chamber EDC fosters local relationships, creates growth opportunities for business, and advocates for its membership. The Chamber EDC is hiring the Director of Public Relations to be part of our fun, dynamic, impactful team. The Director of Public Relations is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication and public relations initiatives that enhance the visibility and reputation of the Chamber EDC. This individual will oversee media relations, branding, content creation, and community engagement efforts to effectively communicate the mission, programs, and successes of the organization.
Public Relations & Communications:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive PR strategy to promote the Chamber EDC’s initiatives, programs, and achievements.
- Serve as the primary media contact, cultivating relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Monitor media trends and industry news to identify opportunities for thought leadership and brand positioning.
Branding & Marketing:
- Oversee the development of marketing materials, newsletters, Connection magazine, and digital content to ensure consistent messaging.
- Maintain and enhance the Chamber EDC’s brand identity across all communication channels.
- Develop storytelling strategies that highlight business successes, economic development efforts, and community impact.
- Oversee and grow the Chamber EDC’s social media presence, helping the team to create engaging content that drives community involvement.
- Oversee website updates and ensure timely dissemination of news and event information.
- Utilize data analytics to track engagement and refine digital communication strategies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or associate’s degree (considered) in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or a similar role.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with economic development, business advocacy, or community development initiatives is a plus.
- Experience with social media management, website content creation, and digital marketing strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to lead a small but dynamic team to meet goals and expectations.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of public policy, business development, or economic growth strategies.
- Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) and content management systems.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform communication strategies.
- Belief in the mission and vision of the Chamber EDC efforts with a high level of integrity and customer service mindset.
Basic Office Requirements:
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must possess Microsoft Office experience – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Work hours are generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday (though occasional evening events will occur).
- Driver's License and reliable transportation to arrive at work.
- The ability to occasionally lift and move up to thirty-five pounds and infrequently lift and move up to fifty-five pounds.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
