Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with a talent for guiding and mentoring teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including advanced writing and editing abilities.
  • Strong multitasking capabilities with a focus on prioritization and meeting deadlines.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Expertise in training and developing medical writers and scientific professionals.
  • 8+ years of experience in medical communications or a related field.
  • Robust scientific and medical knowledge with familiarity with AMA, FDA, and ACCME guidelines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.
  • Aptitude for rapidly understanding and mastering new disease states and therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Oversight: Supervise medical writers and scientific directors, managing staff assignments and holding weekly status meetings. Serve as the primary liaison between the Medical Writing department and other company divisions, including Production, Art, and Operations, to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials.
  • Content Development: Develop medical communications content as needed.
  • Quality Assurance: Guarantee that all content is accurate, clear, engaging, appropriately referenced, and aligned with client and audience objectives. Perform rigorous quality checks to meet the highest editorial and scientific standards.
  • Workflow Management: Oversee departmental workflow, develop, and implement editorial templates and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure adherence to established processes.
  • Client-Focused Solutions: Assign writers best suited to meet the specific needs of clients and ensure deliverables are completed on time while addressing any challenges that might impact timelines.
  • Innovation and Efficiency: Research and implement innovative tools, including AI technologies, to enhance efficiency and optimize the content development process.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all materials comply with AMA and client-specific guidelines and style sheets. Adhere to Fallon Medica SOPs for workflow and content review.
  • Training and Development: Train and mentor writers to maintain consistently high standards of scientific and editorial excellence. Foster professional growth within the team.
  • Freelancer Management: Build a database of freelance medical writers and editors, oversee their work for quality assurance, and track associated costs and budgets.
  • Budget and Scheduling: Monitor and manage editorial budgets while consistently meeting deadlines and resource constraints.

Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and/or work experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel a minimum of 12 times a year to various parts of the United States (including weekends), to support meetings.
  • The majority of travel will require air/flight(s).
