Job Summary/Description:

Do you love the idea of waking up our viewers with the latest news from overnight? WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia has an opportunity to join our popular morning show, "Daybreak". In this role, you'll produce and host the "New This Morning" segment on our 5:00-7:00 a.m. morning newscast. Work alongside a tight-knit morning team in our brand-new state-of-the-art studio.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Produce/anchor our "New This Morning" segment on our morning newscast, "Daybreak".
  2. Produce/anchor our "Daybreak After Hours" segment on our streaming desk.
  3. Report (MMJ) during the second half of your day. This will be a story that will air the following day on Daybreak.
  4. Must enjoy and excel at creative writing and storytelling.
  5. Ability to shoot and edit your own video/stories.
  6. Ability to break down longer-form national stories into "snackable" segments on "Daybreak".
  7. Post stories and breaking news to our digital platforms (website, social media).
  8. Research, gather, and provide information in the most accurate, appealing, timely, and creative way possible using all available resources.
  9. Develop and maintain sources.
  10. Contribute story ideas daily.
  11. Demonstrate sound news judgment.
  12. Collaborate with others to present stories/news in the best way possible.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  2. Must be a "morning person". This shift requires arriving at the station around 3:30 a.m.
  3. 1-year previous news experience preferred.
  4. Live reporting experience preferred.
  5. While primarily on a Monday-Friday morning shift, flexibility in scheduling to respond to the changing news landscape is required.
  6. Familiarity with non-linear editing, TVU, Sony ENG, Social Media.
  7. Experience writing, producing, shooting, and editing video.
