Utah Valley University is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Coordinator - Writing Center (Office Assistants).


Under the direction of the Writing Center director and coordinator, the Writing Center assistant coordinator for Office Assistants primarily assists with training and management of office assistants, social media management, and the daily operations of the Writing Center. The Writing Center assistant coordinator for office assistants is also a key member of the leadership team and collaborates on strategic planning, assessment, communication, program and resource development, and education and supervision of Writing Center staff. Additionally, the assistant coordinator serves as an office assistant based on program needs.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations and communication: Works with the writing center staff to ensure office assistants have access to needed resources. Works with the administrative team to ensure quality personnel management in the writing center. Communicates with the administrative team about office assistant needs and updates. Communicates with campus stakeholders and community members as social media liaison. Assists with the office assistant scheduling as needed.
  • Program and Resource Development: Works closely with the director and coordinator to develop ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities for office assistants. As a part of the writing center administrative team, ensures data collection (WCOnline, Client Report Forms, etc.) maintenance, and tracking for office assistant responsibilities.
  • Office Assistant: Works as an office assistant within the writing center, including training and supporting new and returning office assistants as a role model and mentor, observing, and offering constructive feedback on customer service, resource development, and professionalism.
  • Staff Education and Supervision: Assists with hiring and supervising Writing Center office assistants. Participates in professional development to stay current with writing center scholarship and policy. Helps lead staff education and manage office assistant staff education resources in Canvas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution and 1 year customer-facing office experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to those who have previous experience working in a writing center and 2 or more years of customer-facing office experience.
  • Knowledge of writing centers.
  • Knowledge of and strong foundation in customer service.
  • Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to collaborate with students, faculty/staff, and/or community patrons as stakeholders in the Writing Center.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to read, write, and be understood in the English language.
  • Ability to instruct and motivate office assistants.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to accept and complete assigned projects.
