Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator/Project Director of the Social Work Education Capacity Expansion project (SWECE) and Social Work department chair, the Multimedia Specialist works with faculty and staff from the Department of Social Work to create content used for communication, marketing, outreach, and educational purposes. The Multimedia Specialist will create social media, video, web-based and print graphic content suitable for a wide variety of audiences that highlights activities, events and programs that are ongoing in the Department of Social Work as well as assist faculty and staff with ongoing projects. Website design and maintenance is also required. Strong web design, graphic design and video production skills are essential for success in this role. This position is a hybrid work structure, offering the ability to work from campus with some remote work hours.
The position involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with campus departments and statewide organizations including the Social Work Department Administrative Support Coordinator (ASC) and faculty, Extension and International Programs (EIP) and other university units, CSUF ASC Sponsored Programs staff, and the funding agency, the CA Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI).
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties
Participate in the ongoing management of the department's website. Produce content (written and otherwise) for the department's website as necessary. Consult with faculty & staff to create web and social media content in order to:
attract prospective friends of the department and remain in touch with current HHD students and alumni. Promote and publicize social work activities, programs, and faculty/student research and accomplishments, i.e., Social Work Month, community engagement, and stipend programs.
Oversee marketing and social media content. Manage content production including department photography and videography for select events and manage digital archives of photography/videography. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Experience in web content development, management, image editing and page layout. Experience representing an organization on social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. Ability to communicate complex subjects with simple and direct communications that inspires audiences to action. Graphic design skills and knowledge of Canva, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign, and similar software. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the news media. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling and the composition of various communication vehicles. Detail-oriented and ability to manage changing priorities, critical deadlines, and maintain a sense of urgency, initiative and follow-through. Ability and/or interest to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in an academic setting. Knowledge of Social Work programs and processes. Proficient in use of interactive marketing techniques such as video sharing, social networks, email marketing, and blogs. EDUCATION:
Minimum Bachelor's degree in communications or related field (e.g., multimedia art, graphic design, film)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting of up to 25lbs.; periodic bending; long-term periods of sitting; long term periods operating a computer.
