Staff Embedded Software Engineer - Audio Android
Job Description
Ford Model E Platform Architecture Engineering is looking for a Staff embedded software engineer to work on Audio DSP platform software. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of automotive software solutions and embedded software modules for electric vehicles developed by Ford in the area of platform software of audio hardware and audio DSP.
You will be expected to pivot quickly on new ideas. Failing fast will be normal.
Responsibilities
What you’ll do...
- Lead the successful development of next-generation software components for electric vehicles working with architects, engineers, and other technical specialists to design an integrated solution.
- Analyze requirements related to the Audio Infotainment product to design & develop high-quality, innovative solutions for the audio platform software of the product.
- Design, develop, and test Audio software components, working with multi-core high-end SoC that runs multiple virtual domains on a Type-1 hypervisor with more than one domain sharing the Audio resources.
- Develop Audio software components for several use cases associated with Audio Management, Audio Routing, and Tuning in multi-domain systems that include Linux and Android.
- Develop common Audio device drivers for components like Audio Amplifiers and Audio Codecs.
- Develop Android (AOSP) HALs associated with Audio like Audio-HAL, Audio-Control HAL, as well as any related Native framework adaptations.
- Be proficient in common Audio frameworks like ALSA, Tinyalsa.
- Devise innovative methods and tools for Acoustic performance measurements of tasks associated with Certification of Carplay/AndroidAuto and tuning for several Audio Post Processing algorithms, including ECNR.
- Design and develop software components that drive several Audio devices like Amplifiers, Microphone Codecs, DSPs.
- Design and develop application interfaces that control Audio Post processing algorithms like Bass/Treble/Mid Boost, Loudness control, Limiters, Echo, and Noise cancellation algorithms running in DSP.
- Design solutions catering to challenging Early Audio requirements for Chimes, digital HORN features.
- Configure and test Audio Hardware peripherals through I2S, TDM, etc.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- B.S. in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 10+ years of proven working experience in embedded software development.
- Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded audio systems and audio platform software (firmware, driver).
- In-depth knowledge of Open source sound framework like ALSA & Plugins, Tinyalsa.
- In-depth knowledge of Android Audio HAL, Vehicle HAL. Understanding of Android Native Audio framework adaptations and the Audio Policy Configurations.
- Experience working with Audio Amplifiers and its diagnostics.
- Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
- Strong documentation, writing, and communication skills.
- Must be willing to learn and dive into unknown areas.

- Experience in specifying, designing, and developing Audio Tuning protocol for all audio algorithms in a production-friendly manner.
- Experience in para-virtualized architecture environment.
- Analyze and estimate CPU and memory resources for the Audio Streaming problems solutions being designed and optimize the solution based on budgeted resources.
