Bilingual Writing Coach



Empire State University is seeking applicants for bilingual (Spanish-English) writing coach positions to support students in our newly established online Bachelor of Business Administration taught in Spanish which launches in Fall 2025. This program will be conducted in Spanish and support services will be provided in Spanish. The bilingual writing coaches are professional writing tutors who will provide one to one and small group learning assistance and coaching in writing, research and study skills. Tutoring sessions will be conducted online in Zoom or Teams.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting students online with all aspects of academic writing and research.
  • Reviewing course material and clarifying assignments for students.
  • Providing asynchronous assistance, such as reviewing papers.
  • Coaching students on study skills, reading strategies and time management.
  • Assisting students with navigation of LMS (Brightspace), MS Teams, Office 365 programs (Word, Excel, etc.) and other University systems.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student meetings (attendance, cancellations, etc.) including writing a session report for each session.
  • Scheduling students for appointments as needed.
  • Completing required training and participating in professional development.
  • Delivering live, online academic support workshops in Spanish on various topics.


Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
  • Experience assisting college students with academic writing, research and study skills in a college learning center or writing center.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing learning assistance in an online environment.
  • Experience assisting adult college students.
  • Prior knowledge of and experience in working with bilingual and emergent bilingual learners, particularly in online settings.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Special Information:
  • Part-time positions, renewed on a term-to-term basis. Hours range from 4-12 hours per week during academic terms.
  • Evening and weekend hours are desired.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for these position.


Additional Information:
Salary: $28-$30 per hour, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
