Catholic Diocese of Gary is hiring: Parish Music & Choir Director in Crown Point

This position will be effective as of 6.1.2025 and will report to the Pastoral Associate.

Holy Spirit Parish is seeking a passionate missionary disciple with musical gifts to prepare and provide music for Sunday and other special liturgies. The candidate will develop a comprehensive music ministry for the parish through musical performance, developing the choirs, coordinating musicians, as well as training and recruiting new team members.

Specific Task/Duties:

• Oversees and executes music for two weekend Masses (Saturday 4:00 p.m., Sunday 11:00) and for Holy Days of Obligation (Christmas Eve and Day, Easter Triduum, etc.)
• Schedules music ministry personnel
• Provides music for all funeral and wedding Masses
• Directs the adult choirs and music ensembles, assists with the children’s choir
• Recruits and trains cantors/musicians
• Offers a fresh approach to sacred music
• Fosters a welcoming aesthetic through music and addressing the parish community
• Develops new ensembles or programs to enhance Sacred Music for liturgies
• Demonstrates professional and Christ-like behavior
• Welcomes new ideas as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve liturgies
• Timely communication, flexibility

JOB SKILLS:

• Music performance ability and ensemble experience
• Team building/recruitment
• Practicing Catholic with strong personal faith and knowledge of the liturgy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Computer knowledge
• Able to work nights and weekends

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Music degree, or equal level experience preferred.
• Ability to read music, play piano and/or proficient in other instruments.
• Previous experience working as a church musician is a plus.
