Join us to work hard, do good, and make a lasting difference! Position Overview Uncommon Schools is looking for an accomplished and enthusiastic Music Educator to join our growing faculty. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an outstanding music program dedicated to developing exceptional musical talent throughout the K-12 education of our students. Our music pedagogy is grounded in proven approaches, including Orff and Kodaly, and emphasizes active music-making through singing, movement, and instrumental instruction. Key Responsibilities Implement network-provided curricula and activities to align with music-specific academic standards; Teach diverse music-based content, including singing, dance, and instrumental music for elementary students; Develop engaging music literacy lessons focusing on rhythm, pitch notation, solfege, improvisation, and composition; Collaborate with Enrichment teachers and the Director of Operations to plan multiple performances throughout the year; Design and conduct assessments to measure progress towards academic standards; Support school-wide instructional and cultural initiatives, including academic coverage and daily duties; Participate in collaborative curriculum development and school functions; Establish strong classroom management aligned with Uncommon Schools’ system; Ensure accountability for students' mastery of musical standards; Effectively communicate with students, families, and colleagues; Engage in an annual three-week staff orientation and training. Qualifications Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education, or Performance; Experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary-aged children; Familiarity with the Kodaly and Orff approaches; training in these pedagogies is preferred; Ability to manage and direct large groups of students; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Valid State Certification is a plus but not required; Proficiency in piano and vocals, with knowledge of recorder and basic guitar; additional instrument proficiency is a plus; Alignment with Uncommon's core beliefs and educational philosophy is essential; Experience performing and/or teaching music is highly preferred; At least two years teaching experience in urban public or charter school settings is preferred; Passion for improving students' lives in and out of the classroom; Proven track record of high achievement in the classroom; Strong enthusiasm for academic subjects; and Self-motivated and ready to contribute as a team player. Compensation and Benefits Compensation for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determined by relevant full-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
