THE ROLE The Director of Sales/Marketing works with the GM and AGM to achieve maximum revenue and profits for the Centers through direct and indirect sales efforts to include media purchases, print materials, ad campaigns, daily sales initiatives, and oversight of Event Coordinators. Generates sales within the short-term 18-month timeframe (local business). The Director works collectively with the Anchorage Convention and Visitor’s Bureau in maintaining event calendar and monitoring all activities relating to booking events at the facility. Director must have working knowledge of food and beverage operations to be successful in this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist Center Managers in Sales and Marketing to ensure maximum profitability of the facilities. Direct and maintain a professional sales team, keeping them informed of policy and procedures and assuring that the work produced meets sales goals, deadlines, and contractual obligations to clients / SMG service standards. Take an active part in all sales and marketing to ensure maximum space usage and off-premise catering activity. Service existing local accounts with emphasis on developing new business / retaining old business. Identify groups and develop strategies to increase Facilities’ booking of local events and conventions. Develop a marketing plan with direction from GM, AGM, and Marketing Manager. Coordinate and implement the marketing plan. Produce and maintain monthly Marketing budget, forecasting reports, monthly lost business reports, and assist with developing the annual facility budget. Coordinate public relations, advertising, and sales promotions for the Facilities. Act as liaison and establish and maintain communications and working relationships with SMG’s contract administrator’s Sales & Marketing Team of the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau. Represent the Centers to local and state organizations and assist the ACVB in hosting major conventions in the Center. Evaluate building usage peaks and valleys and look for creative and innovative ways to sell the Facilities during slow periods. Supervise and provide support to Event Coordinators. Develop sales contracts and addendums and monitor compliance. Ability to travel extensively via auto is required. Outside sales initiatives are an integral component to the success of this position. Ability to work irregular hours in addition to normal business hours, to include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to maintain a productive, team-oriented relationship with staff and subcontractors. Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all Legends & ASM policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
