What we need

The Floating News Producer is cross-trained to produce all of KCRW’s news programs and may also train on culture shows. The producer fills in as needed when regular staff are absent. When the producer is not needed on a show, they will report feature stories for KCRW news.

We are seeking a versatile, creative, self-motivated journalist. You’ll support talented on-air hosts and board operators, working alongside other KCRW producers and editors. You’ll use your own news judgment and creativity to make KCRW’s local news coverage dynamic, crisp, clear and full of useful information.

This is a permanent position assigned on a floating basis to accommodate dynamic staffing needs on these teams to help direct local news coverage.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Managing Editor. This position is in the SAG-AFTRA Bargaining Unit.

Responsibilities

  1. Producing on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Press Play, and other news shows or projects as needed
  2. Pitching news and culture stories
  3. Editing audio
  4. Reporting from the field when needed
  5. Writing web copy, gathering photos and pitching social media ideas
  6. Taking assignments for news and feature stories
  7. Developing and executing original, creative and enterprise stories
  8. Writing, reporting and voicing stories for newscasts
  9. Covering breaking news

Skills & Experience

  1. Knowledgeable about general news and Southern California
  2. Knowledge of Dalet, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or equivalent preferred
  3. Minimum 1 year journalism work experience required
  4. Data collection and analysis of information from different sources
  5. Critical thinking
  6. Strong writing and editing skills
  7. Ability to efficiently prioritize and meet deadlines

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Range: $35.31- $36.54
Eligible for overtime and premium holiday pay rate
