Position Overview The Marketing Department at Oregon Shakespeare Festival is responsible for driving awareness, interest, ticket sales, and attendance through a variety of programs, people, and initiatives on and off stage. In addition to driving audience retention efforts, we endeavor to welcome and grow new audiences with dynamic and inclusive marketing campaigns. As the
Associate Director of Marketing and Sales , you’ll serve as the “right hand” to the Director of Marketing and Sales in this newly created role, overseeing and supporting our marketing, sales, and communications functions. This includes leveraging a variety of channels, audience data, and messaging to develop communications and initiatives that drive attendance for a range of audiences, including highly engaged patrons and casual ticket buyers. The Marketing Department strives to be a collaborative, flexible, and dynamic team that responds to a multitude of internal and external needs. We are the voice of OSF which requires a high attention to detail and cross-functional collaboration across the organization. Our ideal team members are strong project managers and equal parts creative and analytical thinkers who want to understand and connect with a diverse range of audiences to fully realize the Festival’s position as an iconic theatre destination. Please note that this is an in-person position, and relocation support will be available. Organizational Background The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) : Marketing Serve as a thought partner to the Director of Marketing & Sales in the development of long-range and short-range marketing plans, overseeing the execution of marketing campaigns, including Member Presale. Develop email strategy in partnership with department leadership and ensure OSF’s Email Service Provider (ActiveCampaign) is used to its fullest potential. Serve as the department’s resident Tessitura expert and work with Marketing and Sales Manager and Database Administrator to manage team trainings, lists, segmentations, and adherence to best practices. Develop and oversee patron journeys, working with the Marketing & Sales Manager to leverage email, SMS, and other mediums to guide audience engagement such as pre-performance reminders, upselling, and promoting experiential add-ons related to the Rogue Valley. Support the Development Team by serving as a liaison for membership activities, helping to design acquisition strategies that convert ticket buyers into entry-level members. Support Director of Marketing & Sales in the review of creative materials and content, including providing approvals, suggesting refinements, and communicating with the Creative Content Team. In coordination with Marketing & Sales Manager, support house-filling efforts by leveraging local and regional contacts and partnerships to increase attendance and local audience participation. Supervise the Box Office Manager and collaborate to integrate Box Office operations with marketing initiatives, enhancing the patron experience and driving sales goals. Align Box Office communications, such as talking points and audience-facing materials, with institutional and marketing priorities, maintaining consistent and cohesive messaging over the phone, in person, and online. Oversee the activities of the Group Sales Office in partnership with the Box Office Manager, including supervising the Marketing & Sales Manager in the ideation and implementation of strategies for acquiring and retaining groups through digital, print, and cold calling campaigns. In collaboration with the Web Manager and Database Administrator, ensure a seamless e-commerce and ticketing experience, refining each step in the patron purchasing journey. Serve as lead project manager for performance cancellations/modifications, policy changes, and other critical customer service communications. Oversee the operations and promotion of evergreen discount programs, including OSF Connects and Rush, collaborating with Box Office and Marketing Teams to ensure policy adherence, gather data, and derive insights for future improvements. Assist the Director of Marketing & Sales in forecasting sales, conducting market research, and preparing regular reports using Tessitura and other data systems. Communications Ensure the Director of Marketing’s larger public relations strategy is implemented effectively, meeting established goals and timelines. Supervise the Marketing & Communications Manager, who oversees organic social media content creation across various platforms and manages day-to-day press activities, including coordinating interviews and media inquiries. Work with department leadership to identify and support institutional visibility opportunities. Supervision Received: Director of Marketing & Sales Supervision Exercised: Minimum Qualifications & Skills: A minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in marketing, sales, or a related field within a performing arts organization, cultural institution, or live entertainment venue is required. Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge: - Expert and nuanced understanding of the marketing process and experience in launching and maintaining marketing and sales campaigns. - Demonstrated success in managing and supervising teams. - Exceptional analytical and technical skills. Physical Ability: Ability to work at a computer station and remain standing for extended periods. Hours Requirements:
40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend work as needed. Preferred Qualifications & Skills: - Familiarity with Tessitura or other CRM software. - Experience working in ticketing or with box office staff is highly desirable.
