MinnPost is hiring an audience producer, a new position, to work alongside MinnPost’s other journalists to grow readership and maximize the reach of our work through engagement with audiences on a variety of platforms.
This producer will be at the forefront as MinnPost experiments with video, audio, AI and other tools to better reach audiences and optimize the performance of our website, story pages, newsletters and social posts. While we don’t expect you’ve mastered every digital tool or platform, we’re looking for someone who is entrepreneurial and excited to try new tools while embracing the challenges of digital publishing and the constant need to adapt to how audiences are choosing to engage with the news.
In this role, you will:
- Write the daily newsletter and contribute to our weekly newsletters with an engaging style and the right mix of content that will increase and deepen engagement among subscribers
- Write the twice daily Glean and weekly quiz, using analytics to optimize the performance of both
- Produce stories, add SEO headlines, visuals and related links and work alongside editors and reporters to maximize the reach of MinnPost stories through strategic distribution
- Manage MinnPost’s homepage and social media presence day-to-day, ensuring we’re making our journalism accessible, engaging and responsive to web and social users’ needs and interests, with an emphasis on short-form video
- Surface and produce partner content, evergreen stories and other timely content that would interest MinnPost readers
- Occasionally write quick-turn stories or produce quick-turn social-first stories to engage MinnPost audiences
- Outstanding digital content skills, an understanding of social media strategy and knowledge of digital platforms and trends
- Mastery of some digital publishing tools and basic web design, plus a proactive approach to learning and developing new digital skills to meet audience needs
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships with both internal and external partners
- Data literacy and the ability understand and act upon audience analytics data
- Strong news judgment and the ability to synthesize stories to create strong headlines, social media and newsletter copy
- Strong organizational skills to track and move a variety of projects forward
This position’s minimum starting salary is $64,500.
This position is covered by collective bargaining agreement with TNG-CWA 37002, the Minnesota Newspaper & Communications Guild.
