Director of Upstream Marketing within Shockwave Medical.

Our Shockwave Medical portfolio aims to establish a new standard of care for medical device treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through its differentiated and proprietary local delivery of sonic pressure waves for the treatment of calcified plaque.

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Upstream Marketing to lead our coronary and systems new product development projects and lead the downstream support of our on-market system. This high-impact leadership role will be instrumental in driving significant revenue growth and shaping the long-term strategic direction of our coronary IVL portfolio. You will be leading and growing a team responsible for developing and executing strategies that set these future strategies through engagement with KOLs, exploration of unmet needs and market opportunities and collaborations with the R&D, quality, regulatory, marketing, medical education, clinical, operations, manufacturing, and sales teams. Essential Job Functions:

Refine, enhance and execute a 7-10 year plan for the coronary IVL Portfolio plan to drive revenue growth in the billions over this period. Maintain and evolve the long-term coronary IVL technology development vision, ensuring that new technologies meet market needs, regulatory requirements, and competitive challenges. Utilize knowledge of the clinical setting, the coronary market, and the coronary data landscape to collaborate with the clinical team to develop and drive clinical strategies to support portfolio strategy. Oversee both upstream and downstream marketing activities for the Generator and Accessory portfolios (through a manager), ensuring seamless integration with product development and market adoption strategies. Lead marketing core team activities as a part of Product Development Process (PDP) through a team of product managers, ensuring successful product development from concept to development and alignment of user requirements to market introduction. Champion product development activities across multiple internal and external groups by collaborating with and influencing operations, regulatory, clinical, quality, sales, sales training, medical affairs, etc. Work closely with commercial marketing leadership to support on-market and new product launch activities, including product positioning, messaging, and market entry strategies. Manage and mentor a team of 3 individuals and growing, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability while guiding the team towards achieving strategic goals. Manage, coordinate, and execute global customer engagement and establish strong relationships with key opinion leaders to support product development programs and provide strategic input into portfolio and product strategies. Lead market research to understand behaviors of adoption and use of IVL in the coronaries, identify opportunities and unmet needs, and value market opportunities for investment proposals. Assess the competitive and clinical environment to determine appropriate development priorities for the organization.

Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years of professional marketing, product management, program management, R&D, sales, or medical education experience in Medtech required. 5+ years in cardiovascular is preferred. 5+ years in marketing or product management is preferred. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred. Demonstrated expertise in developing long-term product strategies, managing product lifecycles, and driving revenue growth across multiple product lines preferred. Previous leadership experience required, including building teams, developing employees, and leading leaders. Ability to build successful partnerships with the sales force and develop relationships with key opinion leaders. Operates independently and with agility to modify strategies and tactics, when necessary, based on voice of customer and emerging trends. Excels in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities. Cross functional team leadership experience required. Ability to collaborate and work with others in a dynamic, matrix environment. Outstanding interpersonal skills including developing relationships at all levels of the organization and indirectly influencing business objectives. Ability to travel up to 30% with both domestic and international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $146,000 - $292,000. The salary range for the Bay area only: $167,000 - $336,000.
