Job Description: The Manager of Wellness, Health Promotion, and AOD Education is responsible for coordinating, executing, and evaluating the Wellness Service's department's wellness initiatives on campus; with a focus on the six dimensions of well-being. These initiatives are focused on promoting student well-being and healthy behaviors and prevention and intervention through educational outreach, programming, and publications. This position aims to enhance overall student well-being and success. This position also provides supervision for student workers and Graduate Assistant positions. The individual in this position will demonstrate cultural competence and confidence in working with all members of the Arcadia University community. They will incorporate social justice concepts and principles into health promotion, education programming, and campaigns. This position works 11 months and schedule will be finalized before hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, development, planning, implementation, and assessment for campus-wide wellness initiatives focused on the six dimensions of well-being: financial, spiritual, mental health, belonging, physical, and intellectual.
  • Programming and outreach initiatives will include but not be limited to: mental health awareness, suicide prevention, AOD (Alcohol and other Drugs) education, and substance use reduction.
  • Student health awareness will include but not be limited to topics such as reproductive health, including STI prevention and screening awareness, nutritional education, oversight of weekly healthy snack tabling events, disease prevention, including common respiratory illnesses (cold, flu, COVID), and travel health.
  • Establishes and fosters strong, collaborative relationships with campus and off-campus stakeholders to ensure a unified, comprehensive approach to integrating wellness initiatives across the campus community.
  • Collaborates with other student organizations, including the Student Government Organization, The Hidden Opponent (THO), Reproductive Rights, Black Awareness Society, and Pre-Health Professionals Club, to attain similar wellness goals.
  • Collaborates with campus partners, including, but not limited to, the offices of Campus Engagement, Residential Life, Community Standards and Student Conduct (CSSC), Public Safety, etc.
  • Building new partnerships and strengthening existing ones within the community, such as the Montgomery County Department of Health and the Southeast Regional Mental Health Services Coordination Office.
  • Develops and oversees the Student Wellness Advisory Group (SWAG).
  • Coordinates and oversees campus-wide wellness initiatives, training, and programming efforts. (MHFA, QPR training, TIPS, Annual Health Fair, Wellness Week, etc.)
  • Grants: General grant researcher focused on obtaining wellness-related funding. Conducts ongoing research, grant writing and proposals, data collection, and analysis for initiatives aimed at reducing alcohol and substance abuse, suicide prevention as well as promoting wellness education.
  • Marketing: Manages the department's communication regarding wellness initiatives, programs, and education through various channels, including social media platforms, printed materials, newsletters, website updates, and campus-wide wellness bulletin boards.
  • Peer Educator Program: Oversees and implements an effective peer educator program, including developing curriculum and training, applying and selecting, and overseeing peer engagement in wellness programming initiatives. Supervise and mentor the Peer Health Educators (PHEs)
    • recruit and hire 3-4 PHEs every fall and spring semester
    • weekly group supervision with PHE's
    • oversight of Peer-led health promotion/wellness programs
    • oversight of the PHE social media accounts
  • Supervision: Recruit, supervise, manage, and evaluate work student workers, undergraduate and graduate students, Public Health interns, and peer educators who assist with the implementation of outreach wellness programming efforts/initiatives.
  • Assessment: Develop, implement, analyze, and report on periodic campus health surveys that provide baseline and follow-up wellness data. These surveys would identify and inform program needs and priorities, evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and track trends in student wellness status and behaviors. Examples include the American College Health Association, Healthy Minds, Wellness Department student surveys, and AOD assessments.
    • Monitor trends in college health policy (including mental health and overall wellness) and integrate best practices
    • Benchmark against best practices of other universities to identify opportunities and models for use
    • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of data
  • Budget: Oversee and manage the Health Promotion/Wellness and AOD education budget.
  • Participates in Campus Life and relevant University-wide committees
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to:
  • Incorporate health promotion in higher education settings
  • Design and implement health promotion programs on a variety of wellness issues based on needs assessment results.
  • Leadership abilities include overseeing campus initiatives and related committees and coalitions.
  • Experience identifying, securing, and managing grants and grant budgets.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and build community around wellness and health promotion
  • Prioritize the historically marginalized diverse populations in the health promotion processes.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in public health, health promotion, health education, or related field.
  • Three or more years experience in health promotion or related fields
  • Evidence of effective supervision, training and evaluating student workers, graduate students, or other professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience with cultural humility and social justice practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of progressive responsibility in health promotion or related field
  • Participation in research and professional writing, publications and/or presentations
  • Active participation in professional organizations in a leadership capacity
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience conducting needs assessments, program evaluations, and development of methods to programmatically and strategically respond to findings.
  • Experience with collaborating with stakeholders and organizations

Other Requirements: (e.g., certificates, license required)

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/MSHE) or Certified in Public Health (CPH)
