We Require Two years of library experience
Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value Experience with library-related automation systems or databases
Experience creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults
Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program
Cash handling experience
Job Contributions Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Library's District Great Expectations customer service model
Assists with preparing, implanting and presenting public programs
Assists with conducting school visits, group tours and community outreach
Performs routine opening/closing procedures
Assists with providing direct service to customers through basic reference and reader's advisory services
Assists patrons in the use of computer services including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases
Responds to customer concerns
Creates reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotional displays and pamphlets
Serves as person in charge when the manager is away from the branch
Assists with compiling and reporting required statistics
Assists with collection development including weeding, shifting, shelf-reading, etc., as needed
Assists with the placement, training, and scheduling of library volunteers
Working Conditions Work is performed in a library environment with a varied schedule continually dependent on Branch need, and often requires evening and weekend availability
Lifting bins, pushing carts, stooping (to shelve), kneeling (to shelve), walking to assist customers with finding materials, walking to and from staff area to public area, moving craft and program supplies from various storage areas to site of program in the library and off-site
Ability to lift 20 pounds floor to waist, lift 5 pounds waist to shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder to overhead, carry 10 pounds a distance of 50 feet, and push/pull 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
