Business Insider is hiring an Associate Director of Lifecycle and Retention Marketing to join our Growth Marketing team. This role will focus on driving engagement, conversion, and retention among our core audience—transforming casual readers into loyal subscribers.

The Role & Team As the Associate Director of Lifecycle and Retention Marketing, you will drive strategies to guide audiences through the user lifecycle, expanding our engaged audience and growing our loyal subscriber base. In this role, you will be instrumental in achieving our company’s key objectives: driving loyal, repeat visitors and growing our subscription business. You will lead email marketing efforts and collaborate closely with the product team on product-led growth initiatives and retention pricing strategies to maximize subscriber LTV and revenue. You will oversee the strategic direction and execution of key projects while managing a small team responsible for campaign production. This highly visible, cross-functional role will take ownership of existing high-impact email and retention programs while spearheading exciting new initiatives that drive meaningful business growth. This role reports directly to the VP, Growth Marketing and sits on the Growth Marketing, Subscriptions team. This position is based in our New York City HQ with a periodic in-office presence. Key Responsibilities: Lead the end-to-end strategy and execution of email marketing, including triggered lifecycle journeys, automated news alerts, newsletters, and ad hoc campaigns across all funnel stages. Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to optimize performance and drive continuous innovation. Utilize deep expertise in customer segmentation and data analytics to develop, optimize, and scale lifecycle marketing campaigns that are timely, relevant, and personalized to drive growth across the entire user journey. Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, Data, and Analytics teams to develop and optimize strategies that enhance engagement, foster loyalty, boost subscriber conversion rates, and maximize lifetime value. Partner closely with the Product team on product-led growth initiatives to enhance subscriber retention, reduce both voluntary and involuntary churn, and increase lifetime value through initiatives like onboarding experiences, price testing, and other retention & loyalty programs. Partner with the Editorial team to gain a deep understanding of our editorial strategy and continuously refine how we leverage content to engage, retain, and convert our audience—optimizing initiatives to be more personalized, automated, and data-driven. The Ideal Candidate Has: Proven expertise and a track record of success in lifecycle and retention marketing, with experience in a leadership role. Extensive experience in email marketing, from strategy to execution, with experience optimizing automated, triggered, and ad hoc campaigns to drive engagement, conversion, and retention. Proficiency with major ESPs and CRM/lifecycle marketing platforms, such as Iterable (preferred) or similar tools. Deep passion for lifecycle and retention marketing, with a commitment to staying current on industry trends and best practices. Data-driven mindset for making strategic decisions, identifying key consumer segments, defining team prioritization, and identifying actionable next steps for campaigns. Experience managing and mentoring direct reports. Familiarity with subscription-based business models is a plus.
