Position: Marketing Director

Location: Hybrid - Woburn, Massachusetts


Job Summary: The position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with a broad scientific background and experience in marketing, product management, sales and/or business development, specifically with instrumentation, consumables, and reagents that enable high throughput biology. The candidate should have a high level of curiosity about our customers’ needs and be able to translate those needs into a clear and concise message to promote solutions using the Covaris technology platform. The successful candidate should be a creative and resourceful team player who excels at working across multiple departments (Sales, BD, Applications, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering) and with our European office. The role is multi-faceted and demands scientific understanding, market awareness and commercial expertise.


The Marketing Director's role is to identify longer term growth opportunities, determine product development priorities, describe product specifications, and shepherd approved projects through the development process and commercialization. This is an important appointment and the role will be both challenging and rewarding from a scientific and a business development perspective. Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, Marketing, & Product Management, the Marketing Director will also work closely with Covaris’ Scientific and Technical leadership.


Key Responsibilities: The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.


Strategic Marketing Planning

  • Conduct in-depth market research to Identify and analyze the market needs and potential customer segments for new-product and systems development
  • Develop and implement strategic marketing plans aligned with company objectives, including market segmentation, positioning, and differentiation strategies.
  • Develop clear customer segmentation to enable effective targeting and positioning of existing products and solutions from Covaris across all geographies and segments


Product launch and branding

  • Obtain and interpret product/market information via customer feedback and scientific collaborations
  • Deliver on Covaris’ strategy through effective brand messaging across all channels and monitor their performance metrics Recommend/ideate, help develop new product specifications and work closely with Product Management team throughout product development cycle
  • Establish, test and implement robust value propositions for each new product and solutions


Scientific Communication

  • Create compelling scientific communication materials, including presentations, publications, and clinical trial summaries, to effectively convey the value proposition of biotechnology products to healthcare professionals and researchers.


Digital Marketing

  • Lead the development and execution of digital marketing strategies, leveraging websites, social media, SEO, and targeted advertising to reach key audiences.
  • Manage online content creation and distribution, including scientific articles, case studies, and webinars.


KOL Engagement

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the relevant therapeutic areas to leverage their expertise and influence for marketing campaigns


Market access and sales support

  • Manage marketing related activities with an emphasis on scientific collaboration and innovation
  • Define and develop promotional tools and sales tactics to drive sales including product pricing, promotional tactics and sales story
  • Specify, plan, and participate in industry conferences and exhibitions


Industry Events and Conferences

  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and scientific meetings to promote products and build relationships with potential customers and partners


Management

  • Conduct and present comprehensive product training
  • Provide weekly management reports regarding product sales activity to budget, programs, market conditions and competition
  • Assess skills and talent of marketing team members and partner with HR to create development plans enabling leadership strength and increase overall team capabilities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in life or physical sciences is required; While Master’s degree in life or Physical Sciences is preferred, PhD will be a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a Marketing organization
  • 3+ years of experience in a role focused on developing, launching, and leading a brand
  • Experience in Marketing in the Biotech world focused on instruments, automation and consumables as well as branding products for clinical and Pharmaceutical markets will be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple research disciplines such as genomics, epigenetics, proteomics
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and implementation skills; proven analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of molecular biology; NGS and proteomics experience a plus.
  • Experience with SalesForce is a plus.
  • Critical thinking skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and timelines
  • Up to 30% travel, primarily domestic.
