SUMMARY
The Communications Manager is responsible for leading and executing communications strategies for our programs, services, and events. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who can balance multiple projects, bring fresh ideas to the table, and work seamlessly with colleagues across departments to amplify our mission.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working in close collaboration with the Public Relations & Communications Director and the Marketing & Communications team, the Communications Manager will:
Develop and implement communications plans for programs, services, and events, including adoption events, community programs, veterinary clinic, licensing, Shelter Shop, etc. Help manage the editorial calendar to align communications and fundraising efforts across platforms. Serve as the primary copywriter and copy editor for organizational publications, program materials, promotions, and marketing collateral. Maintain and organize the department's collateral library, ensuring accessibility across the organization (digital and physical). Act as project manager for incoming departmental communications requests, promotional materials and outgoing deliverables. Coordinate the production and distribution of branded promotional materials and swag. Plan and execute print, TV, radio, outdoor, and digital advertising campaigns. Manage the Pet of the Week program, coordinating and sending assets to media partners. Support the Director of Public Relations & Communications with media outreach and community relations. Represent the organization as a spokesperson for media interviews, presentations and community events. Supervise the Graphic Designer, ensuring high-quality visual storytelling. Recruit, train, and manage communications and graphic design volunteers. Regularly participate in industry learning opportunities to grow communications skills, knowledge of animal welfare and network with colleagues doing similar work at the local and national level. Be a steward of the organization's core values, while promoting a culture of high team performance and continuous improvement Uphold Pasadena Humane's mission and contribute to building a culture of philanthropy. Ensure a safe working environment and actively participate in Pasadena Humane safety programs. Participate as needed in special department projects. Work as a team member with other departmental managers. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of proven experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Nonprofit and/or animal welfare experience preferred. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from an accredited four-year college or university in communications or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders effectively. Highly motivated, well organized and detail oriented; a self-starter who can take accountability and ownership of projects. Experience managing creative professionals and volunteers. Knowledge of advertising, branding, and marketing best practices, including overseeing graphic design and visual storytelling. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with designers, and others on the theme, design and content of print, electronic, and web-based publications to maximize impact; develop and maintain communication plans for targeted audiences. Strong public speaking skills. Experience as an on-camera spokesperson preferred. Quick to adapt to and adopt new technologies. Bilingual Spanish speaker a plus. Strong passion for helping animals.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a hybrid position with the ability to regularly work from home 1 to 2 days a week. This position regularly requires early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (live and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
