Eligibility: Open to KCAI and UMKC students only

About the Role

Are you passionate about photography and eager to gain hands-on experience in a museum setting? The Photography Intern will work within the Digital Production & Preservation Department, supporting the Lead Photographer in a variety of photographic projects. This internship provides an opportunity to refine technical skills, work with professional equipment, and contribute to the museum's visual storytelling, from digital preservation to social media content creation.

What You'll Do
  • Assist in Digital Collection Preservation: Support imaging efforts to document and preserve artworks within the museum's collection.
  • Contribute to e-Commerce & Social Media Content: Help produce high-quality imagery for online platforms, including museum marketing and retail initiatives.
  • Gain Hands-on Studio Experience: Work in the Imaging Studio, learning lighting techniques, composition, and professional workflow processes.
  • Work in Museum Spaces: Assist with on-location photography assignments, capturing exhibitions, events, and gallery installations.
  • Enhance Post-Production Skills: Utilize Adobe Photoshop and other editing tools to refine and prepare images for publication.
  • Schedule: To be determined once selected.


Who You Are
  • Must be a Junior or Senior at the Kansas City Art Institute at the time of internship or a UMKC student.
  • A photography major or a student with a strong interest in photography.
  • Experienced with basic Photoshop editing and post-production techniques.
  • Knowledgeable about photographic processes and equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to different types of assignments.
