Library Assistant
Seeking a team member for a Saturday position at the busy,community-focused Fowler Branch Library. This position is every week, but itcan potentially be filled by one or more candidates. Duties include: serving customersof all ages at a busy circulation desk, registering patrons, processingrequests and items according to defined procedures, and helping provide activitiesand programming. Qualifications: HS Diploma plus minimum of six monthsfrontline customer service experience, excellent communication skills, andattention to detail required.
Work Schedule: Saturdays: 9am-5pm (Fowler/Main). Pay rate $22.47-$26.85/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Openuntil filled; priority by March 26, 2025. Applications will be reviewed as they arereceived, and the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to one ormore interviews. All applicants will be notified of their standing in theprocess as soon as a decision has been made regarding their individualapplication.
Appointmentof the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placementconditions including a criminal record check, a physical exam, and a drugscreening. The Town will bear the costs for these pre-placement requirements.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Branch Librarian, the Library Assistant serves Library patrons in the branch library through checking materials in and out, explaining use of online resources, assisting patrons to answer their questions, and maintaining shelf order. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring the ability to learn and follow departmental operations and policies and the judgment and flexibility to complete or delegate tasks that are not clearly defined by those policies.

- Provides positive, courteous service to public in a team-oriented environment.
- Performs circulation responsibilities: registers patrons for library cards; checks in and out library materials; processes reserves and other requests; processes interlibrary loan requests; routes items to and from network libraries; assists patrons with searching the catalog and using technology such as self-checkout.
- Assists patrons in locating materials in the library and answers patrons' questions, including research assistance, Internet navigation, and accessing town and other resources.
- Assists library patrons with accessing electronic and digital resources including downloadable books, music, and other media.
- Sorts books and other library materials and returns them to their proper location; sorts deliveries and checks in items; shelves materials and maintains shelf order.
- Creates brief cataloging records and performs data entry for periodicals.
- Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
- Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation dictates.
- Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively interact with all members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.
- Intermediate level computer skills; ability to operate wide spectrum of office equipment including telephone, printer, copier, etc.
