MacEwan University invites applications for a full-time limited-term Instruction Librarian position. This appointment will be up to 14 months long, with an ideal start date of June 1, 2025, subject to final budgetary approval. Based in MacEwan University’s sole library (John L. Haar Library) and supporting a diverse community of learners, you will be a member of a dynamic team of professionals working collegially and collaboratively on the development and delivery of library services and teaching to students. We are seeking a public service oriented, proactive, and collaborative individual, with a genuine interest in and commitment to student learning to act as one of two English department librarians. You will have effective interpersonal and communication skills, with strong presentation and teaching skills. You will work with faculty, staff, and students in English to develop, deliver, and evaluate curriculum-integrated information literacy instruction, provide in-person and online reference services, develop and assess subject relevant collections, and support the library in aligning our work with the University’s Teaching Greatness Strategic Vision 2030.
As one of two English subject librarians, you will be heavily engaged in the library’s Information Literacy (IL) Foundations Program. The IL Foundations Program is embedded in the mandatory 100-level English classes that students from across the university take. This work involves both English librarians, with instructional support from an additional 6-8 librarians, who collectively make up the IL Foundations Team in the library. This work includes:
- Co-scheduling and co-planning the work of the IL Foundations Team with the other English Librarian
- Content upkeep for both synchronous and asynchronous versions of the IL Foundations Program materials with a focus on improved accessibility and equity for students
- Visiting classes to introduce library information and services, including a mandatory asynchronous library tutorial
- Guiding students through an interactive lesson on evaluating sources for assignments
- Providing workshops to students on searching for and finding resources
- Accommodating early morning and early evening classes with flexible start and finish times
- Meeting one-on-one with students to support them through the research process
Within this role, there is also the opportunity to serve on library or university committees and be involved in projects or initiatives that advance the vision and mission of the library.
Qualifications
- You will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience and a demonstrated interest in the development and provision of information literacy programming to students is an asset.
- Post-secondary education or library experience supporting English; Arts, Education, Humanities, or Communications is an asset.
