The Access Services Coordinator provides quality customer service to patrons of the Black Hawk College Library and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Library circulation desk, patron access to library resources and services, collection maintenance, and supervision of the library’s computer lab and study areas.

The Access Services Coordinator is a district-wide employee of Black Hawk College. Their primary location is the Quad Cities Campus Library. They provide regular support and as-needed coverage for the East Campus Gust E. Lundberg library.DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Leads all functions regarding the circulation of library materials.
  2. Manages resource sharing and interlibrary loan requests and processes.
  3. Interviews, recommends, and trains part-time Access Services staff and student employees.
  4. Schedules Access Services staff to cover all hours of library.
  5. Maintains Course Reserves collection, including additions, withdrawals, and inventory of materials.
  6. Maintains library stacks including shelving, shifting, shelf reading, and inventory.
  7. Monitors and manages study room, computer lab, and study table use.
  8. Aids patrons in the use of computer lab, study rooms, printers, scanners, and library equipment.
  9. Assists library users in locating materials using the online catalog, databases, and WorldCat.
  10. Interprets library policies and procedures to patrons.
  11. Provides reference assistance to library patrons, in-person and virtually.
  12. Recommends, documents, and implements updated Access Services policies and procedures.
  13. Maintains database of library user accounts.
  14. Collects fines and fees for lost, damaged, or overdue library materials.
  15. Maintains confidentiality of patron and materials records.
  16. Prepares and presents statistical reports related to Access Services.

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:


  1. Serves as Illinois Library Delivery System (ILDS) liaison for the library.
  2. Serves on committees and task forces as needed.
  3. Assists with library programming, events, and book displays.
  4. Works evenings as needed.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
  6. Lifts up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  7. Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  8. Valid driver’s license required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  1. Associate’s degree or Library Technical Assistant Certificate required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  3. ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS preferred.
  4. Two years library experience preferred.
  5. Competence in using office equipment, library software and databases.
  6. Excellent customer service skills.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  9. Able to effectively train others and monitor their performance.
  10. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  11. Able to maintain confidentiality of patron and materials records.
