Job Title: Senior DesignerJob Description

The Senior Designer is responsible for leading all design phases for interior projects, establishing the vision, leading the team, and maintaining extensive client interaction. This role involves developing the overall design for projects, directing staff to complete design and technical drawings, and reviewing the work of junior staff.

Responsibilities

Develop the overall design for the project

Direct staff to complete design and technical drawings

Review design and technical drawings of junior staff

Research and select fixtures and finishes for projects

Produce, review, and finalize space plans for projects

Provide suggested details for interior design projects

Research and collect details for furniture and finishes cost estimates

Develop and deliver overall design and furniture packages

Verify site details to support design and aid in field surveying of client spaces

Manage overall design budget

Organize and conduct client interviews to determine space needs and requirements

Essential Skills

Graduate of architecture or design school; equivalent experience may be substituted

8+ years of experience in corporate interior design projects

Extensive knowledge of design principles and aesthetics

Extensive knowledge of space planning methodology

Expert sketching and rendering skills

Expert interior architecture detailing skills

Extensive knowledge of CDs and procedures

Extensive knowledge of building systems, codes, and ADA requirements

Extensive knowledge of contract administration

Working knowledge of budget preparation and ability to manage projects within budgetary constraints

Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite

Advanced skills with Revit

Extensive presentation and graphic communication skills

Ability to manage and lead staff through a combination of direct authority and subject matter expertise

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working under the leadership of a more senior team member

Ability to guide and mentor a junior designer

Proven ability to translate client goals, brand, and culture into powerful environments

Work Environment

The office is located in the Loop, right across from Millennium Park and the Art Institute, with 22 offices across the US. The schedule includes 3 days in the office (Monday and Wednesday are mandatory, with a choice of the third day) and 2 days remote. The office has a team of 37 currently, consisting of a design-focused team, a technical-focused team, and a graphic design team. The main project types include Workplace, Retail, and Hospitality, with a focus in Chicago on Corporate Workplace Interiors. There is reimbursement for passed exams for licensure and study groups available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
