WXOW-TV in beautiful La Crosse, Wisconsin is looking for an ambitious journalist who is passionate about local news to fill the role of news producer.
If you have an eye for detail, consider yourself a spelling and grammar czar, and enjoy puzzles, this may be the perfect entry-level position for you.
We are willing to train the right candidate, and our extensive on-boarding process will prepare you to succeed in this position. We strongly believe in cross-training, so you’ll have the skills and confidence to excel as our early evening newscast producer, and a citizen of the newsroom.
The ideal candidate will have excellent time management skills and must work well under deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Accuracy is valued above all else and a degree in journalism is preferred. Knowledge of AP Style is a must.
Responsibilities include:
- Search for news content from multiple sources, including our affiliates, social media, and local sources
- Work with News Director, Anchors, Reporters and Meteorologists to execute content-driven newscasts
- Assign camera operations and on-camera reads
- Format content to fit within our show template
- Write creative and engaging stories
- Write compelling headlines and teases
- Communicate well with newsroom team
- Update our website and social media with new content daily
- Manage breaking news
- Monitor emails and news releases
- Add potential news stories to our day planner
- Perform other duties as assigned
