Palliative Care
Managing a chronic condition can take a toll on the mind, body and spirit. That's why Bon Secours is honored to provide specialized palliative care for patients and families living with cancer to make certain they get the best care possible. Palliative care is provided by a team of board-certified physicians, palliative-care certified advanced practice nurses, clinical social workers and other specialists who work hand in hand with your cancer team. We work closely with both the patient and family on care decisions, including open discussions about treatment choices and advance care planning.
Palliative Care Services We Offer
Both hospice and palliative care focus on quality of life. Palliative care is provided with medical treatments as an extra layer of support. Hospice is provided after disease-directed cancer therapy is no longer a part of treatment and cancer has become life-limiting.

Bon Secours is adding an Experienced Palliative Nurse Practitioner to our warm and caring team of providers!
- Previous hospice or palliative experience is required - 3 to 5 years is highly preferred
- Care is provided inpatient at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth VA and at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News VA
- Care is also provided in outpatient palliative and hospice care environments
- 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday-Friday
- Full time required
- 4 10 hours days with rotating day off
- NO CALL
- Average 6-8 patients per day
- All Adult Geriatric
- EPIC EMR
- Typical Day: Performance of inpatient palliative consultations through receiving referrals, chart review, patient evaluation, telephone discussion with family and other care providers, goals of care conversations, advanced care planning, end of life discussions and care coordination with other members of the care team. A lot of time spent in counseling and coordination of care with all involved parties.
- Support through 4 RNs and 1 LCSW
- Mentorship through MD Medical Director and Palliative NPs
